1. Purpose

Cooper Group values the trust placed in us by our clients. This Referral Programme is designed to reward those who introduce new clients to us for eligible financial services. These Terms & Conditions govern how the programme operates, including eligibility, reward structures, and the obligations of all parties.

2. Eligibility to Refer

To be eligible to participate as a referrer, you must:

  • Be an existing client or approved partner of Cooper Group
  • Not be a current employee, contractor, or director of Cooper Group
  • Not be referring a member of your own immediate household
  • Have submitted a completed Referral Form before the referred client makes first contact with Cooper Group

Participation in this programme is a privilege, not a right. Cooper Group reserves the right to exclude any individual at its sole discretion.

3. Qualifying Referrals

3.1 Eligible Products

Referral rewards are available for the following products only:

  • Residential or commercial mortgage / home loan
  • Personal or business insurance (life, health, income protection, trauma, or other insurance products arranged by Cooper Group)
Please Note KiwiSaver referrals are expressly excluded from this programme and do not attract a referral reward, regardless of circumstances.

3.2 New Clients Only

A qualifying referral must be a person or entity that:

  • Has not previously been a client of Cooper Group, and
  • Was not already in active discussion or application with Cooper Group at the time the Referral Form was submitted

3.3 Referral Form Requirement

Completion and submission of the official Cooper Group Referral Form is mandatory — no reward will be paid without a valid, submitted form on file. The form is available at coopergroup.co.nz/mortgage-referral and must be:

  • Submitted before or at the time the referred client makes first contact with Cooper Group
  • Completed in full — partial submissions will not be accepted

Verbal referrals, retrospective claims, or forms submitted after the referred client has already been in contact with Cooper Group will not qualify. Cooper Group will confirm receipt of each form — if you do not receive confirmation within 3 business days, please follow up.

3.4 Settlement Required

A reward is only payable once the referred client's application has formally settled. Enquiries, applications, or conditional approvals alone do not trigger payment. For clarity:

  • Mortgage referrals settle when the loan has drawn down with the lender
  • Insurance referrals settle when a policy has been issued and the first premium paid

4. Reward

Upon settlement of a qualifying referral, the referrer will receive one (1) NZD $250 Prezzie Card, subject to the following:

  • Only one $250 reward is payable per referred client — regardless of how many eligible products that client settles with Cooper Group. For example, if a referred client settles both a mortgage and an insurance policy, only one $250 reward is issued.
  • The Prezzie Card will be issued digitally and sent to the email address provided on the Referral Form within 30 days of the settlement date
  • Prezzie Cards are issued to the referrer named on the submitted Referral Form only
  • Prezzie Cards are non-transferable and cannot be redeemed for cash

Cooper Group may, from time to time and entirely at its discretion, recognise referrers who go above and beyond with an additional gesture of appreciation. This is not a guaranteed entitlement and forms no part of these Terms & Conditions.

5. Privacy

By submitting a Referral Form, you confirm you have obtained consent from the referred client to share their personal information with Cooper Group for the purposes of this programme. All personal information will be handled in accordance with Cooper Group's Privacy Policy and the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

6. Conflicts of Interest & Disqualification

Cooper Group reserves the right to decline or withdraw a referral reward where:

  • The referrer and referred client are members of the same immediate household
  • A conflict of interest exists or is reasonably perceived to exist
  • The referral is found to be fraudulent, misleading, or made in bad faith
  • The referrer has provided inaccurate or incomplete information on the Referral Form
  • The referred client's application does not proceed to settlement for any reason

Any reward issued on the basis of inaccurate or misleading information may be recovered by Cooper Group.

7. Tax Obligations

Referral rewards may have tax implications depending on your individual circumstances. Cooper Group recommends seeking independent tax advice. Cooper Group accepts no responsibility for any tax liability arising from rewards received under this programme.

8. Programme Modifications & Termination

Cooper Group reserves the right to:

  • Amend, suspend, or terminate this programme at any time, with reasonable notice provided to active participants where practicable
  • Modify the reward value or eligibility criteria at any time
  • Update these Terms & Conditions — the current version will always be available at coopergroup.co.nz

Referrals formally submitted and accepted before any programme changes are announced will be honoured under the terms in effect at the time of submission, unless otherwise stated.

9. General

  • These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of New Zealand
  • Cooper Group is a Financial Advice Provider operating under the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013
  • Participation does not create any employment, agency, or partnership relationship between the referrer and Cooper Group
  • These Terms & Conditions constitute the entire agreement in relation to the Referral Programme and supersede any prior representations or understandings
  • If any provision of these Terms & Conditions is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force
